Melissa Schriek wins the Meijburg Art Commission 2024!
Since 2015 the Unseen photography fair and KPMG Meijburg & Co have been proud partners, sharing their vision of art as a platform for innovative perspectives that breakthrough existing patterns. That’s why we set up the Meijburg Art Commission.
The winner of the Meijburg Art Commission for 2024 was announced during the successful 12th edition of the international Unseen Photography Fair. It was our pleasure to award the 2024 MAC to Melissa Schriek. In her award-winning work she presents her vision of the theme Prosperity and challenges us to look at our urban environment from different perspectives.
Schriek asks crucial questions about how our cities affect our personal well-being, both individually and collectively. Prosperity is more than only economic security: it’s also about the freedom to enter public spaces in a manner that suits our personal needs, while being aware of the ecological and social impact of how these spaces are designed.
Her work forces us to think about how urbanization can facilitate or hinder opportunities to grow. In doing so, she also draws attention to social questions such as gender inequality and urban alienation. Melissa emphasizes the importance of designing urban spaces that are inclusive and accessible, whose purpose is creating a society where everyone can thrive, regardless of their position.
The award-winning work will be revealed later this year at our office in Amstelveen and added to our art collection.

Meijburg Art Commission 2024
For this edition of the Meijburg Art Commission, we chose to have artists reflect on a current theme in society or the world: Prosperity - what do we need to thrive in today’s world? What does it mean to be able to really thrive as an individual and as a society, taking into account factors such as time for ourselves and for each other, financial security, the environment and culture.
