ESG is here to stay

ESG is here to stay and will play an increasingly important role in various socially-conscious developments. The impact of this has become more visible in recent years, for example, in the development of new legislation and regulations. The importance of ESG-related issues is also something we are seeing more of in case law. All this is having a big impact on companies and the people and stakeholders involved in those companies; an impact that will undoubtedly become even bigger in the future.

Developments in, for example, reporting, such as the Sustainable Finance Disclosure Regulation (SFDR) and the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD), trigger new reporting obligations for investors, financial institutions and larger companies.

Opportunities

This development means new challenges for our clients, but challenges also present opportunities. Directors are confronted with new issues, new responsibilities and new liability demands. Compliance departments need to implement ESG obligations in the organization. Purchasing departments have to make ESG part of their procurement processes to ensure that the supply chain is ESG-proof. ESG affects everyone.
